6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

6.1 What information we share with Firebase, Google, Apple, and OpenAI

WordAI uses the following third-party services. Here is what information is shared with each:

  • Firebase (Google) — We use Firebase for sign-in, database, crash reports, and performance. With Firebase/Google we may share: email address (if you sign up with email), user ID, device/OS and app version, and crash/performance logs. Firebase’s use of data is governed by Firebase/Google Privacy and Google Privacy Policy.
  • Google Sign-In — If you choose “Continue with Google,” we receive from Google only what you consent to (typically email and optionally display name). We use this to create or link your WordAI account. We do not receive your Google password.
  • Apple Sign-In — If you choose “Continue with Apple,” we receive from Apple only an anonymous identifier and, if you allow it, a relay email or name. We use this to create or link your WordAI account. Apple’s handling of data is described in Sign in with Apple privacy and Apple Privacy Policy.
  • OpenAI — When you use word definitions, translations, or example sentences, we send to OpenAI only: the English word(s) you query and the prompt content used to generate the response (e.g. language or context like “college level”). We do not send your account ID, name, email, or device identifiers. As of March 1, 2023, data sent to the OpenAI API is not used to train or improve OpenAI models unless you explicitly opt in. For details and OpenAI’s privacy practices, see: Data controls (Your data) and OpenAI Privacy Policy.

Other providers (e.g. RevenueCat for in-app purchases, if used) receive only what is necessary to provide their service.
